Rhizobial isolates in active layer samples of permafrost soil of Spitsbergen, Arctic
نویسندگان
چکیده
Twenty-nine strains were isolated from two samples of the permafrost active layer Spitsbergen archipelago. The estimated number bacteria ranged 4.0⋅104 to 1.7⋅107 CFU∙g-1. As a result sequencing 16S rRNA (rrs) genes, isolates assigned 13 genera belonging phyla Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria (classes α, β, and γ), Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes. Six belonged rhizobial genus Mesorhizobium (order Rhizobiales). A plant nodulation assay with seedlings legume plants Astragalus norvegicus, A. frigidus, subpolaris Oxytropis sordida, originated Khibiny (Murmansk region, Russia) inoculated isolates, showed inability these form nodules on roots. Symbiotic (sym) genes nodC nodD not detected in either.

متن کاملRole of vegetation and climate in permafrost active layer depth in arctic tundra of northern Alaska and Canada
The active layer is the top layer of permafrost soils that thaws during the summer season due to increased ambient temperatures and solar radiation inputs. This layer is important because almost all biological activity takes place there during the summer. The depth of active layer thaw is influenced by climatic conditions. Vegetation has also been found to have a strong impact on active layer t...

15 صفحه اولThe influence of vegetation and soil characteristics on active‐layer thickness of permafrost soils in boreal forest
Carbon release from thawing permafrost soils could significantly exacerbate global warming as the active-layer deepens, exposing more carbon to decay. Plant community and soil properties provide a major control on this by influencing the maximum depth of thaw each summer (active-layer thickness; ALT), but a quantitative understanding of the relative importance of plant and soil characteristics,...
متن کاملInput of easily available organic C and N stimulates microbial decomposition of soil organic matter in arctic permafrost soil
Rising temperatures in the Arctic can affect soil organic matter (SOM) decomposition directly and indirectly, by increasing plant primary production and thus the allocation of plant-derived organic compounds into the soil. Such compounds, for example root exudates or decaying fine roots, are easily available for microorganisms, and can alter the decomposition of older SOM ("priming effect"). We...
